Open WRI File

The WRI file extension is associated with the discontinued Microsoft Write file type and format.

WRI is a rich text binary format introduced and used in conjunction with Write, a simple word processing tool included in older versions of Microsoft Windows.

WRI was partially based on RTF (Rich-Text Format) and text documents saved with this extension could include some basic format, which is why their conversion to RTF is simple.

In later versions of Windows, WRI files were redirected and supported by WordPad, a basic word processing utility with more functions, however, over time this support has been removed, due to little recorded use by common users.

WRI files have been deprecated and are generally not supported or supported only rarely for backward compatibility reasons.

In any case, it is best to convert any WRI file with WordPad to a universally supported word processing format such as RTF.

Although they are binary, WRI files store their content, partially, as plain text, and those plain text sections can be viewed and extracted with any text editor or dump viewing tool.
