Open MPO File

An MPO extension file contains a stereoscopic image consisting of two JPG-type 2D images that are in turn combined into one 3D image.

This file can be created by digital cameras such as the Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D series or the Nintendo 3DS.

MPO files are common on 3D televisions for viewing 3D images.

MPO files are captured independently by the two lenses of the digital camera, then combined as a single 3D image.

Files can also be converted to a single anaglyph-like image with a stereoscopic image processing program and then viewed with red / green 3D glasses.

Standard JPG image viewers can also open MPO files, but only one of the two images may be visible, usually the one on the left.

The MPO format was developed by The Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA), which established that the specification allows any number of JPG files to be saved, however, the most common use is for stereoscopic images, that is, for two interposed images.

MPO files are related to another stereocopic image format, such as JPS or Stereo JPEG Image.
