Open IGS File
IGS files can acquire various applications, most of them of a graphic type.
A file with the IGS file extension is an IGES format drawing file, which is used by CAD programs to save vector image data in ASCII text format.
IGS files are based on the Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES), and used to be a widely used standard for transferring 3D models between different CAD applications.
However, today many programs also rely on the STEP 3D CAD format (STP files) for the same purpose.
Extension files in IGS can be Indigo Renderer Scene files used by Indigo's Renderer or RT program.
These IGS files, after being exported from a 3D modeling program such as Blender, Maya, Revit, etc., are then imported into Indigo software to generate a photorealistic image.
About Indigo's Renderer
Indigo Renderer is 3D rendering software that uses rendering technologies to create photorealistic images.
In doing so, it uses equations that simulate the behavior of light.
In many cases, an IGS plugin may be required with some of the programs enabled before the file can be imported.
For example, if you are opening the IGS file in SketchUp, try installing the SimLab IGES Importer.
FreeCAD is used to open an IGS file.
It is free software for Mac and Linux.
TurboCAD Pro and Vectorworks programs can also open an IGS file on macOS.
There are also IGS online viewers that allow you to upload your file for online viewing.
Autodesk Viewer, ShareCAD and 3D Viewer Online are some examples.
Since these services run through a web browser, it means you can use them to open your IGS file on Mac, Windows, or any other system, including mobile devices.
