Open GID File
A GID extension file is an index created the first time Windows Help is searched.
About Windows Help
Windows Help was developed as a proprietary help format developed by Microsoft.
Although it already existed in Windows 95, it became popular with Windows 98, and was widely used until the Windows XP operating system.

The GID file is used as a configuration file in both Windows 95 and Windows 98 and allows faster and more efficient access to Help documentation by indexing Help topics.
