Open EXT File
The EXT extension files present, up to now, two different applications, namely:
Norton Commander Extension
In this application, the EXT format was a software extension used by Norton Commander for DOS / Windows 95.
In this case, the EXT format allowed users to modify files, such as changing file attributes and synchronizing directories, using a text-based interface.
For this use, the EXT extension is already considered unsupported and its use has been discontinued.
Generic Email Attachment
In this case, the EXT extension is a type of file that can be sent by a script or automated email program.
The EXT uses the generic file name, for example filename.ext, and can be a file created in one of many text or binary formats.
Normally the sending / receiving of an EXT file is transparent to the participants of the process, that is, the sender / receiver.
Therefore, if you receive an EXT file as an email attachment, it is generally not clear what the file format is.
