Open CRYPT12 File

The CRYPT12 file is an encrypted database or encrypted backup that is created by the WhatsApp Messenger application for Android or iOS.

The encryption of this file is AES 256-bit encryption for sent and received messages.

The CRYPT12 extension is appended to another extension called DB to denote an Encrypted Database, which is used by WhatsApp to secure the message database on mobile devices.

The CRYPT12 extension must be differentiated from others, such as CRYPT7 or CRYPT8, which refer to the applied algorithm.

There is an application called Omni-Crypt to convert CRYPT12 files to CRYPT legacy files on your mobile device.

However we do not recommend the use of this application as it is not an application authorized by the WhatsApp developer.

CRYPT12 files are system files and manual opening is not recommended.

To work with CRYPT12 files you must have the WhatsApp Messenger messaging service installed on your mobile, either Android or iOS.
