Car Explorer Data File
In this application, CAR files are used as a database for Car Explorer, an informational software about different car models.
The base format of CAR files is eXtensible Car Description (XCD), a standardized specification for storing automobile data, such as make and model, year, price, physical dimensions including related images and specific data.
Brew Component Application Resource File
Brew Mobile Platform uses the CAR file format and extension as a Component Application Resource (CAR) file, hence the use of the acronym.
In this case, the CAR files describe the assets available to a running application, the CAR files are compiled into a BAR extension binary file that is loaded when an application is running.
Gary Gadget Car File
In this particular case, the CAR files contain the part numbers of a car saved and built by the user in the Gary Gadget: Building Cars game.
This game is about allowing users to design, build and drive cars.
