Open APM File

The APM format and extension files serve as a metafile image created by some Windows programs.

Basically, the full name of the files that use the APM extension is Aldus Placeable Metafile, hence the acronym.

What is a metafile?

A metafile allows you to save content of various types in the same file, such as photographs, texts, vectors, and even sound and video.

In this case, APMs are originally designed to scale images on output devices.

Such APM extension files contain image and metafile header information, similar to the WMF file except that it contains a leading 22-byte header.

An important element to note is that APM files cannot be used natively by the Windows API metafile functions GetMetaFile(), CopyMetaFile(), and PlayMetaFile().
