Open PPS File

PPS files are used to store information in Microsoft PowerPoint Slideshow format. PPS files differ from the more common PPT and PPTX formats in that they represent complete slideshow and are not editable. They will open as a complete slideshow that can only be read and displayed using a presentation application or appropriate viewer. However, simply changing the file extension to PPT will make the file appear editable again. Though uncommon, the PPS extension may also refer to a Personal Producer Storyboard file.

PPS Presentation files consist of individual slides which are played sequentially, and can contain text, hyperlinks, images, charts, graphs or multimedia objects such as video or audio clips. Customized animations and transition effects between slides are also often used either to add interest or enhance the delivery of a presentation, such as displaying a single bulleted item at a time, for instance. PPS files can also include timing information, allowing a presentation to run automatically with slides changing after predefined time intervals. Alternatively, PPS presentation slides can be run through manually if the timing needs to be flexible or previous slides wish to be revisited. PPS files are self-contained, making it easy to distribute presentations without having to ensure embedded resources are available separately.

Presentation files are most commonly used in business and in education to illustrate or present information in a short, concise manner. Traditionally, PPS files would accompany a spoken presentation, though are now often used purely to deliver information themselves.

You can open PPS file using the latest version of Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer. PPS files are not fully backwards compatible, and may loose formatting information if opened in an older version. It should also be noted that as of Microsoft Office 2007, the XML-based PPSX format is the default.
